OptoForge Product & Clinical Use Boundary
Version V1.0 · Effective 23 August 2026
V1 intended purpose
OptoForge is an AI-enabled clinical learning and professional-development platform for optometry students, trainees and eye-care professionals. It provides structured learning pathways, simulated clinical cases, educational feedback, clinical reasoning exercises, image-interpretation practice and professional-development resources. OptoForge V1 is intended to support education and training and is not intended to diagnose, treat, monitor, triage, prescribe for, or make patient-specific clinical management decisions.
ForgeAI Core — preserve the intelligence
ForgeAI may reason through complex clinical material, teach imaging interpretation, compare differential diagnoses, challenge management reasoning, simulate patient encounters and adapt teaching to the learner. The V1 boundary controls the context and purpose of the output, not the sophistication of the underlying learning engine.
What OptoForge V1 can do
- Explain clinical concepts and current evidence for learning
- Run simulated, synthetic and virtual-patient cases
- Challenge a learner’s diagnostic and management reasoning
- Teach image interpretation using sample, licensed educational or appropriately de-identified retrospective material
- Compare differential diagnoses and explain distinguishing features
- Teach general management, referral and safety-netting principles
- Provide OSCE, case, procedure and communication practice
- Personalise learning activities and professional-development recommendations
What OptoForge V1 is not for
- Make or confirm a diagnosis for a real patient in active care
- Generate patient-specific diagnostic probabilities or confidence percentages
- Recommend patient-specific treatment, prescribing or dosage decisions
- Determine patient-specific referral or triage decisions for live care
- Monitor a real patient or issue deterioration alerts
- Accept identifiable patient information as a normal product workflow
- Represent ForgeAI output as a substitute for direct examination, professional judgement or local clinical governance
ForgeAI Supervisor — the V1 learning boundary
ForgeAI Supervisor is designed to feel like an expert clinical educator: it can question assumptions, surface red flags, test differential reasoning and explain general management or referral principles. For live real-patient care, it must not make the diagnosis, prescribe, or make the patient-specific management or referral decision on the clinician's behalf. Where an emergency red flag is described, ForgeAI may still direct the learner to follow the appropriate urgent local pathway.
Future: ForgeAI Clinical
Future / not part of OptoForge V1
A future, separately governed clinical module could support real-patient decision workflows only after deliberate regulatory, clinical-safety, evidence, quality-management, data-protection and technical validation work.
